Kate Fitzgerald is a builder, creator, and former Division I beach volleyball athlete who turns scrappy ideas into real, impactful ventures.
From walking on to Arizona State University’s beach volleyball team to helping clinch a historic NCAA Championship qualification, to launching and scaling her own nationally licensed brand, Kate’s journey reflects a core belief: Luck is what happens when preparedness meets oppourtunity.
Today, Kate's focus is on venture building at the intersection of sports, entrepreneurship, and athlete development. She co-founded SPORTx, the Student-Athlete Venture Studio, where she secured of $2M in funding in collaboration with GoDaddy.
While competing as a student-athlete, Kate was president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She represented over 650 athletes, led an executive board across seven committees, and championed initiatives centered on mental health, education, and athlete advocacy. While competing, she also founded VBAmerica, a volleyball lifestyle clothing brand launched through NIL. What began as a passion project quickly scaled into a full business: securing university licenses, retail placement with Rally House, direct-to-consumer growth, and a strong community of athletes and fans. VBAmerica remains active today, while Kate has stepped back from day-to-day operations to focus on building platforms and programs at scale.
Kate’s leadership extends beyond business; what matters most to her is creating space for athletes to see themselves as leaders, founders, and change-makers beyond their sport.
Today, she’s focused on building purpose-driven ventures and storytelling platforms that empower the next generation. If you’re building something bold, meaningful, or mission-led...
